Development of Navigation Software System for Blind on Windows Mobile Platform

Abstract: Traditional navigation products are designed for the visually normal people, the use of the blind community has been limited. By the integration of Global Positioning System with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), a navigation software system specially designed for the blind is developed on the smart phone platform that running Windows Mobile system. This paper works out a navigation strategy special for the blind users by providing the custom-built map data and an optimized Dijkstra shortest routing algorithm. The software has the functions of route customization, location sharing and peripheral searching for the blind users. And the users can interact with the system by means of voice and buttons.
